Bits of Sweetness: Joy

‎"Proverbs 17:22 - "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."

It might be losing a friend. It might be something hard like losing a loved one or someone you know (or are married to) going into the military, or losing a job.We can't control what happens in life, but you know, we can choose our attitude about it. Enduring something doesn't give us a "right" to complain or be sad or upset (even though it probably feels like it). It's probably the hardest thing you'll do but choosing joy is the most healing thing you can do. To everything there is a season. There is definitely a time to grieve the loss or miss someone or have a sobering moment thinking about what happened, but your life is affected by choosing to continue living in that or to move beyond that and live life to the fullest. Some of the neatest people I know are some friends of mine. They lost an amazing little boy to brain stem cancer. It was heart-breaking. It hit me hard because I had had him in my class. He was precious. Those kids become like your own children. I know you're not supposed to pick favorites but he was one of the ones that just touched my heart. The loss was terribly hard. And hard to see his parents go through it. It amazes me to this day to see their strength and courage. They choose to live life. To live it in honor of him celebrating the time they had with him rather than living in constant grief of the time they didn't get. And I know no one's perfect. There are going to be *those* days. There are. They come. But it's what you do with those days that matters.
