Bits of Sweetness: If you knew me....

If you knew me....

This one has been floating around for a while. No one knows where the post originated. {At least I don't think so!} But I thought I'd write on it, because I haven't yet (at least, not this specific one :) )

If you really knew me....

you'd know that family is really important to me. I know you can't pick the family you're given, but there is beauty in celebrating the relationships within a family, even if it takes work. Sometimes, a lot of work! (After all, you know everyone's kinks and what gets to them!) I really appreciate that my mom and dad made family time such a priority, with our own family and also extended family. I have come to realize too that family does not always have to blood relation. I say that because, sometimes a family is small. Or sometimes the miles separate families. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a sweet "adopted" aunt or grandpa or brother or anyone else who is welcomed into the family and treated as part of the family. I am thankful for the family priority my own parents passed down. They always made it a point to think of our family who lived far away and make sure to communicate often and for sure to visit them when we had a chance. It's an honor to carry that on today! My life really wouldn't be complete without all the family I love and have in my life!

If you really knew me...

you'd know that I have really changed from even just five years ago. But for sure from 10 years ago!!  I am slowly emerging as a little more social, a little more people person, and little more sense of humor. I used to be super super shy. Like, I would be in a room with others and never say a word because I was so shy. I worried what everyone thought. Sometimes I still don't know what to say but I try. It's more enjoyable to get to know people! And to put myself out there.

If you really knew me...

you'd know that I get way too caught up in the details of special things. In my mind it's kindof like, it has to be just right or it doesn't count. I am not a perfectionist until it comes to this but I sure drive myself crazy with it. I don't even mean to go overboard on details. It's hard not to though. To find the little things that will make something just special. To know the look of delight on the face of those enjoying the time. It's really really important to me. but, I think I let it get the better of me. I find myself putting the details ahead of the people I love. (sad but true!) Especially if those people "mess up" what I am working on or throw off my perfectly planned schedule to get the special time organized. I'm not proud of the times I've gotten irritated at the ones I love because the priorities have shifted from the little details and the time being perfect rather than the people in my life mattering more. (It must be a mom thing?! Details mattering so much?!) I'm working on it...

If you really knew me...

you'd know that I wanted to be Laura Ingalls when I grew up. And would watch Little House on the Prairie every single time it was on! And then re-enact it :) Laura was my favorite character! I dreamed often of going back in time to the "good old days" of one room schoolhouses, and wagons, and log cabins and ahh... nostalgia :) I even dressed as her for Halloween one year! (except at our school it wasn't called Halloween. It was Book Character Dress up Day ;-) Ahh the pros of a private school!)

If you really knew me...

you'd know I have terribly ticklish feet. Don't even think about touching them! I will kick you! I *die* every time I get a pedicure! Ahhh...! Sometimes it tickles even when I touch them! Anyone else have this problem?!

If you really knew me...

you'd know that I don't really care for tater tot casserole, seafood, anything super garlicky (too much garlic gives me a cold. So bizarre, I know!) or whole wheat bread, at least from the store. I love home made though. And multi-grain. Yum. But whole wheat? No thanks. I just can't get over the taste of it. No idea why either. Maybe because I grew up on white?!

If you really knew me...

you'd know that I love blonde jokes. Which is ironic considering I am blonde. Hey- I can laugh at myself ;-) And I seriously wouldn't do all the things the blondes in the jokes would. (Ok at least not many!) I have pages and pages of blonde jokes saved somewhere.

If you really knew me...

you'd know that my name was almost Juliana and that I would have been Julia for short. (Named after my aunt). Thankfully, and quite coincidentally, there was another lady at the small church we went to who had a little girl and named her "Julia" before I was born. My mom decided we didn't need two baby Julias, and thus I was fated to be named "Laura." I kindof like it more ;-) I just don't see Julia fitting..... ;-)

If you really knew me...

You'd know that when I was younger, my friends and I would often play the game where we would hide whoever was visiting so hopefully our parents wouldn't notice and leave, and then we could have a sleepover! A couple times, we decided to try to swing high enough on the (quite small) swing set so our parents couldn't get us!  One time, my friends hid me under their legs in the car and their dad, seeing what was going on, decided to play along. It was the first time it had "worked!" But instead of being excited, I freaked out and wanted to go back home!! (We hadn't even made it out of the driveway yet!! ha!)

If you really knew me...

You'd know that cookie dough ice cream, of Ben & Jerry's Jerry Garcia are my two favorite ice cream flavors. I miss having a Ben & Jerry's closeby!! Another close favorite- Canadian Maple & Mountain Huckleberry that this amazing ice cream place near us carries. Their cones are ginormous and Sooo good!!!

  3. Loved getting to know you... I too am crazy ticklish on my feet. The guy who does my pedicures knows how ticklish I am, and when there's a full house he tickles me on purpose. :(

Love the hiding in the car one...that was great! Things we do as kids, my Mom always tells me, wait till you have yours. I'm going to be in trouble. That's why I've settled to be an Auntie...ok, so maybe not. heehee

    Cookie Dough is my favorite...YUM!

  5. I'm slowly getting over my shyness. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one out there who can be really shy. I think our date may be very helpful :)

I also love blonde jokes (being a blonde). Although I have proved myself to be a blonde sometimes. But I think even non-blondes do that. Who doesn't have "blonde moments"?
