Bits of Sweetness: Because, chocolate covered licorice? just awesomeness

Because, chocolate covered licorice? just awesomeness

Last month, I discovered this treat at some friends. It sounded a little different, but once it met my mouth- ohhello. So good. Coming from a chocolate factory though, I knew my wallet would feel the hit of it being a regular treat, so I set out to make my own. And wow. Just as good.

Chocolate Covered Licorice

What you need-

12 licorice pieces (we used Red Vines)
1 1/2 cups Ghirardelli chocolate chips (whatever kind floats your boat- milk, semi sweet, dark.)
1 TBS oil (we used canola)

What you do-
Assemble ingredients. If Red Vines are longer than 5 inches, cut in half. Add chocolate chips and oil to microwave safe dish, and nuke for 20 seconds at a time, stirring well each time until completely melted.

Line pan with wax paper (whatever size fits them all. Do a "test run" and set licorice in beforehand to make sure they all fit. I found out the hard way after the fact of course.)

Dip licorice pieces in chocolate, using bowl edge to remove extra.

Arrange on wax paper. Place in freezer for 5-10 minutes to set. Store in fridge.

I highly recommend starting this whole project by eating a few of those Ghirardelli chips but you know, that's probably just me. Gotta do some quality control here!
