Simplifying + easy fun= my cup of tea these days! Summertime is here, but it doesn't have to mean saying "no" to some things that the boys love that might feel like a little bit of work for me.
I'll be honest- I'm creative, but I'm not a "Pinterest" mama by any means. (You should see behind the scenes! The aftermath is amazing! ;-) ) I do like to have fun though, especially if it happens to keep two busy curious boys safely occupied for more than five minutes. We created a little paint recipe, and well, it's a good one! This idea is a great one to save and pull out for a day you need a few minutes!
3-6 drops food coloring
1/3 c soap
1/3 c cornstarch
1-2 TBS water
(If you're out of cornstarch, flour will work in a pinch!)
Mix all ingredients well.
Collect different textures and utensils to give the kids a different take on painting.
I found some great kitchen utensils (think basting brush, potato masher, & spatulas) plus some pretty branches and leaves.
Set it up and let them go to town!
|Proudly hanging in their room!|
My favorite thing about this might be the fact that a)their faces when they see how beautiful their work is and b) you can easily throw the kids' clothes in the wash with our favorite soap and not have to worry about what stains they'll come out with. My kids are really sensitive to detergent so it's a win to have great cleanup from all that messy fun but no breakout worry!
Check out my Father's Day post to see what they wanted to turn their art pieces into. It's pretty cute! We still kept some to display on the wall though!
What is your go-to activity that leaves you free to be simply fun?
